Originally from Grand Rapids, new STCS Board of Education member Sharon Norman now proudly calls Saginaw home. When her family relocated in 2018, the decision to move into Saginaw Township Community Schools was intentional.

“We believed it was the very best place for our daughters,” said Norman. “This community has embraced our family in meaningful ways. We didn’t just choose a school district—we chose a village”

Her interest in serving stems from a deep love for the district and the people within it. She has served at a boots-on-the-ground level by supporting schools, partnering with families, and volunteering throughout Saginaw Township. Through that hands-on involvement, she has gained a profound appreciation for the heart of the community. Serving at a systems level, she believes, would allow her to take what she has learned about families, prevention, collaboration, and connection and help shape decisions that strengthen opportunities for every student, educator, and family, every day.

“When compassionate, thoughtful individuals step forward, they bring perspective, balance, and hope into important conversations, shared Norman. “My experiences serving in Music Boosters and on the State Foster Care Review Board have shown me that a steady voice of care and accountability can influence outcomes in powerful ways. When community members engage, we move from simply reacting to challenges to intentionally building solutions together. Strong communities are built by people willing to show up.”

As a parent, Norman has experienced the district from multiple angles. She is the proud mother of a Heritage alumni who will graduate from Central Michigan University in May, as well as a current Heritage junior. Her family is grateful for the educators, coaches, and mentors who have positively affected her daughters.

Norman states that her goal during her time on the board will be to help cultivate an environment where students feel supported, teachers feel valued, and families feel connected. In her professional work in child abuse prevention, she sees daily how strong systems and caring adults can change life trajectories. Guided by her faith and leadership philosophy, she believes it “truly takes a village. I want to help strengthen that village by ensuring that schools and community thrive together, not in silos, but in partnership, with every child at the center of every decision.”
