monkey in chair

Something very special is happening in Miss Jones’ class at Sherwood Elementary this year! The 1st grade class is participating in "Monkey in My Chair," a program created in honor of a little girl who loved school and monkeys while she bravely battled cancer.

This heartwarming program helps children undergoing cancer treatment stay connected to their classmates when they can’t be at school. Miss Jones’ class is proud to support one of their own, who is receiving cancer treatment.

Each child receives a special “monkey kit” — including a big stuffed monkey that takes their place in class, a smaller monkey that stays with them during treatment, and tools to help classmates and teachers keep in touch through messages, photos, and activities.

While Sherwood's special student focuses on getting healthy, her monkey friend Penelope is keeping her spot warm, joining lessons, and reminding everyone that our classroom family isn’t complete without every single one of us.
