Title 1?  What is That?

Have you heard the buzz word Title I?..... Title I is a law that states how schools should help students that need extra assistance in learning. Many students at Westdale are receiving Title I services. The goal of Title I is to improve student achievement through:

.:. Effective instruction

.:. Professional Development for Teachers

.:. Family Involvement

Research shows that family support is more important than any other factor in determining success at school.

Here is what you can do to assist the Title I program:

.:. Attend annual parent meetings, open houses, and orientation programs at school

.:. Meet your child's teacher, keep in contact with your child's teacher, and attend the parent- teacher conferences during the year.

.:. Be familiar with the school/parent/student compact. This compact outlines expectations for the school, the parent, and the student.

.:. Volunteer to be a member of the school improvement planning team to help develop and foster school change and family involvement.

.:. Make suggestions and complete surveys to help us improve your child's opportunities at school.
