A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

WELCOME to Saginaw Township Community Schools! Students attending Saginaw Township Community Schools continue to take advantage of a quality education as evidenced by all eight of our regular schools making AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) and meeting or exceeding the standards for Michigan's Education YES! The Saginaw Township Community School District offers every student the opportunity to receive a comprehensive quality education. Whether students are planning on attending college, career schools or vocational programs, they should be well prepared to pursue their chosen career or profession, if they have put forth the effort to learn.

Saginaw Township Community Schools will continue to meet the educational demands of students through technology integration. Teachers will receive professional development training on how to connect students better to the world outside of the school environment through the use of technology. We will continue to focus on keeping students engaged in learning via technology. Keeping students engaged in learning will make them more productive and help raise their level of achievement.

In today's world, having a quality education is more important than at any other time in our history. The quality expectations for students and staff are at a high level in all classes. Students are expected to attend all classes, become engaged with the teachers and other students, and be a participating learner. Teachers are expected to provide quality instruction and develop positive relationships with students to help ensure that quality learning is taking place. Strong parent support is also needed to complete the cycle of a quality education. The research is very clear regarding the positive effect that strong parent involvement and support have upon students being successful in school. We encourage all parents and guardians to get involved in their child's school.

On May 6, 2008, the community passed a $40 million bond millage to help maintain our aging school buildings. During the 2008-09 school year, the architects, construction managers, Jim Stone (Director of Buildings & Grounds), and school building administrators and staff developed plans and specifications, and selected contractors for the work to be done this summer. Construction crews began working June 11, 2009, and have been in full production this summer. The community should be proud of the work that is being done. Our schools will have a new look and will provide more security for students and staff. Phase II of the bond program will be done next summer. (For more details on the bond program, please read the article in this publication and visit our website at www.stcs.org.)

The 2009-2010 school year will be challenging economically, but it will be exciting educationally. The Saginaw Township Community School District offers excellent opportunities for every student! We will do everything we can to continue to provide quality educational programs for our students. Please call me at 399-8044 or email me at jlseese@stcs.org if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Jerry L. Seese, Ed.D.
