CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS


SCHOOL GOVERNMENT

Student Assembly
Student Assembly is the official student government for all Heritage High School students. Students become members through election and may also become involved by coming to room 234 and completing a very user-friendly representative form. Student Assembly takes great pride in being a very active and involved organization whose mission is to represent the interests of all students. Committees are responsible for school activities, school service, student issues & concerns as well as community service projects. If you wish to become involved, this is a great place to begin. Student Assembly also provides numerous opportunities for leadership training. All are welcome!

Class officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer) are chosen in the spring of each school year (with the exception of the freshman class officers who are chosen in the fall). Classmates also choose ten class council members. Their primary area of responsibility is to their individual class. All students are invited to attend class meetings and participate.



OTHER STUDENT CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
Astronomy Club
Advior: Mr. Erickson
The Astronomy Club is available for students interested in opportunities to explore the Sun and night time sky. Throughout the year we will host field trips for night observations, planetarium experiences, and much more.

Chess Club
Club is currently not active.
 

Christian Outreach
Advisor: Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Sawley-Wasmer
Crosswalk is the club that unites Christians on campus. Our primary purpose is providing a place for teens to meet and discuss issues that are important to them, using the Bible as the basis for our discussion, and to pray for each other. We are open to anyone who wishes to come.

Dance Team
Advisor: Mrs. Hopper
The Heritage High School Dance Team is committed to representing Heritage with a high caliber of school spirit, personal integrity and dance talent. Our intent is to perform and educate through self-expression, with a goal to bring a style of jazz/hip-hop dance to school events that is well executed and entertaining while supporting our school and community.

Debate

DECA
Advisor: Mr. Molnar
DECA, An Association of Marketing Students, is a professional organization of which each Heritage Marketing student is a member.  Former Marketing students may also join and participate in DECA events. DECA is a co-curricular organization that is geared towards helping students gain the edge they need to succeed in their years following high school in marketing and management.  Throughout the year, the Heritage DECA Chapter will bring in several guest speakers, go on many marketing related field trips, and participate in activities to help the community and local businesses.  In addition, DECA members have the opportunity to attend district, state, and national competitions.  The national competition is held in various US cities, such as Orlando, San Jose, Louisville, Seattle, Denver, and many others.  DECA provides students with an excellent opportunity to gain the training and knowledge they need to be active and productive business professionals upon graduation.

French Club
Advisor: Mrs. Moore
Gives French students opportunities to join together for field trips, fundraisers, etc.

German Club
Advisor: Mrs. Becker
The purpose of the HHS German Club is to promote an appreciation of the German culture, the German language, and involve students of German in activities that promote a sense of togetherness. The common interest in the study of the German language creates a bond, bringing students together to share activities and cultural experiences.

Helping Hands/Knots
Advisor: Mrs. Mackley and Mrs. Brown
Helping Hands is a newly established organization that provides an opportunity for students to interact with special needs kids at the local elementary schools. Members receive an excellent opportunity for leadership service in addition to participating in very memorable experiences.

HYPE-Heritage Youth Providing Enthusiasm
Advisor: Ms. Beamish
HYPE was established in 1991 as a way to promote athletic events that did not receive much support from the student body. It has since evolved into an active group of students that support all athletic events at Heritage. The main goals of HYPE include: 1) Encourage a positive environment and attitude for students attending and participating in school events 2) Promote good sportsmanship 3) Encourage better attendance at school activities 4) Highlight a sport or event at least once during the season.

Kids Caring for Kids
Advisor: Mrs. Davis

JETS TEAM - Junior Engineering and Technical Society

JETS is a national organization of high school students. JETS annually sponsors the Test of Engineering Aptitude in Math and Science. Every year Heritage takes two JV teams and one varsity team to the competition. Teams are composed of eight students who are given a multiple-choice test covering various topics in science, math and engineering. The Heritage High School JETS team has established itself with a winning tradition.

LAO
Advisor: Mr. Garcia
The Latino Awareness Organization is a student organization whose goal is to make the community aware of the Latino culture. Club members are involved in community service, volunteering, fundraisers, food drives, etc.

Latin Club
Advisor: Mrs. Bixby
The Latin Club incorporates Roman themes into club activities. Activities include lock-ins, parties and wearing togas to public establishments. The Latin Club allows students to socialize in a constructive and entertaining manner.

Law Day
Advisor: Mrs. McMillion


LIFT

Advisors: Ms. Beamish, Mrs. Markey and Mrs. Richardson
LIFT is Heritage High School's own mentor program. An acronym for LEADERS IMPROVING the FRESHMEN TRANSISTION, LIFT's purpose is to help the incoming Freshmen have a more comfortable and more informed stay at Heritage.


Model United Nations
Advisor: Mrs. Tiderington

The Model United Nation club simulates the United Nations system and applies the UN skills of debate, compromise, conflict resolution and negotiation to discussion. Students study the policies of other countries and represent these views during MUN sessions. MUN team members enjoy this process of understanding world diplomacy during the spirited debates of current events. The club practices these learned skills in state-wide MUN conferences.

Multi-Cultural Club

Advisors: Ms. Lee
The Multi-Cultural Club explores cultures and travels to elementary schools to help students better understand the world. The club also organizes a culture show at the high school. During the evening function, cultural acts perform and ethnic food is sampled.

Music Council
The basic goal/objective for a music appreciation club is to allow students who have an interest in music the opportunity to share and enrich their knowledge and appreciation for various genres of music.

NHS National Honor Society
Advisors: Mr. Richardson and Mrs. Tiderington
The National Honor Society is composed of those students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. This is a national membership and the rules of the National Honor Society Constitution must be followed. Candidates for this organization must apply for membership. The qualified candidate must have the following criteria; at least a 3.4 GPA and have taken higher level classes, high recommendations from six subject area teachers who have had the candidate for a minimum of one semester, exhibit exemplary attendance and behavior, and submission of activities of service to school and community and leadership positions held. Outdoors Club

Advisors: Mrs. Cole
The Outdoors Club is an organization to promote outdoor awareness and encourage students to experience nature. Over the course of the year we plan trips based on what students like to do, which include camping, biking, canoeing, etc.

Quiz Team
Advisors: Mrs. Markey and Mr. Tyson
Quiz Team is open to any Heritage High School student interested in participating in quiz competitions. This activity is a team competition with matches scheduled in the spring with the goal of advancing to the State Quiz Bowl Tournament.

SADD
Advisors: Ms. D. Hare
Students Against Drunk Driving is dedicated to educating the student body of HHS as well as the community on dangers of drinking and driving. Members create signs to warn against the dangers during homecoming and prom, sponsor Red Ribbon week, as well as other educational programs.

Science Olympiad
Advisor: Mr. Erickson
Science Olympiad is a nationwide competition that combines all disciplines of Science into one larger event. The goal of the Olympiad is to elevate science education and learning to a level of enthusiasm and support normally reserved for athletic programs. Some events of the Olympiad require an individual from one team to compete against other individuals from other teams.
