Driver's Education

Summer 2013 Drivers Education - Segment 1
Students must be 14 years 8 months by the start of class

Two sessions to choose from:

June 6 - June 26: FULL

June 27 - July 18 (call 797-1847 for availability)



Segment 2

The law requires students who completed Segment 1 Driver's Education to complete Segment 2 Driver's Education class before they are eligible to take a road test to receive their Level II license on or after their 16th birthdate. We will be offering Segment 2 classes starting in October.


Eligibility for Class:  A student must have driven with a valid Level I license for a minimim of 3 months and 30 hours.

Attendance each day is mandatory for successful completion of Segment 2. Absences cannot be accepted for any reason. Students are to report to the Science Lecture Theater (Room 354) at least 5 minutes prior to class time. Classes are limited to 36 students on a first come first-served basis.

How to Enroll:  Fill out an application completely and return it with your payment of $25 to the Community Education Department in the Board of Education Office in Heritage High School. Applications are available at the Community Education office.

3rd Party Road Tests

Road Skills Testing Requirements:

1. Completed Segment 2 of the Driver's Education course.
2. Completed a minimum 50 hours of supervised driving, which includes a minimum of 10 hours of night driving.
3. Has had Level I License for a minimum of 180 days.

Make sure that the vehicle your teen drives during the road skills test is safe and that your teen is familiar with its operation.  If the vehicle does not meet the equipment and safety standards as described in the Road Skills Test Study Guide, it cannot be used for the road skills test.

Provide the road skills test examiner with the following documents:
1.  The white Segment 2 Certificate of Completion
2.  The driving log documenting the minimum 50 hours of supervised driving.
3.  The Level 1 License
4.  Your valid vehicle registration and proof of insurance certificate.

Be sure to allow at least one hour for the road skills test.  As a parent/guardian you will be required to ride in the vehicle during the road test portion of the basic skills test. When the student passes the road skills test, they will receive a Driver Skills Test Certificate.

Currently, third party road skills test fees are not regulated, therefore, you should contact the agencies directly regarding their test scheduling and fees policies that must be provided to you.
