The experimental film that i chose to watch for this media journal is Psycho. The experiment in this movie was a very good director decided to try and make a low budget movie to prove that he was truly a good director and it just wasn't because all the movies he made were high dollar. As a work of film i would have to give the movie about six out of ten. I give it that rating because it showed good use of cinematography at times but other times it was horrible and very cheesy to say the least. An example of where the cinematography was just plain horrible was when the mother was killing Ms. Crane and the private investigator it looked very amateur and cheesy. But on the other hand there were points in the movie where the cinematography was very nice, such as when Mr. Bates is telling his mom that she needs to go away for a couple of days and the camera pans in a slow circle up the stairs and stops at the door with a light on where Mr. Bates is talking to his mother. The one thing that i disliked most about the film was the director was always using music for almost every scene and i believe they over used that aspect big time. As for the literary side of the movie i give it a ten out of ten. I loved the way the director went about telling this story. How the movie starts with the woman running away with the money and u think then that it will be about people trying to track the woman down who stole the money, but just as u start thinking that is whats going to happen the Mr. Bates mother kills her. After a couple days Ms. Crane's family hires a private investigator who then ends up at the Bates motel who knows that there is something fishy about Mr. Bates story about the Ms. Crane. so he goes back and calls Ms. Crane's sister and tells her that Ms. Crane was at the Bates Motel and that he wanted to go back and talk to Mr. Bates mother. When he does go back and go into the house he is climbing up the stairs and is met and killed by Mr. Bates mother. Then when they don't receive a call back Ms. Cranes sister and her husband go to the motel and start searching for answers. At which point the wife decides to go and talk with Mr. Bates mother of whom is in the cellar downstairs. The wife comes to find that his mother is just a decaying corpse at which point she turns to see Mr. Bates dressed as a woman coming at her with a knife but is knocked out by the husband. So it actually really wasn't the mother killing all of the people the whole time. I honestly believe this has to be my new favorite horror movie even though it had some sketchy points with the cinematography and music, it had an amazing story that always had a new surprise to keep you on the edge of your seat. In my opinion i think that this experiment was a great success. |
